A girl’s weekend getaway to Naivasha is never complete without a bush breakfast near the lakeshore followed by a tranquil boat ride. Lake Naivasha is a freshwater Lake in Kenya and is part of the Great Rift Valley. The name is derived from the local Maasai name Nai’posha, meaning rough water because of sudden storms. Luckily, we enjoyed a peaceful boat ride and even met some fishermen who showed us their early morning haul. I was inspired by this trip to paint some of my favourite local birds, the statuesque Great Blue Herons. The oil painting depicts a pair of herons wading through the lake. The little golden fish adds an element of humour to the illustrative style of the painting.
