The Alcazar of Seville is a royal palace of Seville that was built for the Christian King, Peter of Castile. The palace is an example of Mudejar architecture and the gardens are absolutely stunning. With a pre-booked ticket you get to the skip the long line of tourists fanning themselves with brochures in the Sevillian heat. I really enjoyed the guided tour which is offered in a variety of languages. As an avid Game of Thrones fan I especially enjoyed spotting some of the sights where the scenes were shot. After the tour I was eager to escape the crowds so I spent a lovely afternoon meandering through the gardens in search of peacocks and spotted this beauty. The peacock fanned out its feathers and treated a small group of onlookers to a little dance that male peacocks use to attract potential mates. The little brown duck next to it did not seem all that impressed. An American tourist made us all laugh when he said this was the classic, ‘’Not now honey, Ive got a headache!’’ scenario.
Peacocks feature in many of my paintings. This painting is one of my oldest paintings. I love to create detail-oriented work that attempts to convey the subtle nuances of light, shade and texture.
